The following information provides general information about how this medication is typically taken. Your specific instructions may vary based on your condition and treatment regimen.
The information provided above is of general character and should not substitute the professional medical advice. Follow the instructions provided by your health care provider.
Erythego contains brimonidine tartrate, a topical alpha-2 adrenergic agonist indicated to treat persistent facial redness of rosacea in adults aged 18 years or older. Erythego is available in a form of gel with 5 mg brimonidine tartrate per gram of product, which equals approximately 3.3 mg brimonidine base per gram of the product. It corresponds to FDA-approved brimonidine topical gel 0.33% formulation.
Brimonidine causes temporary vasoconstriction of superficial blood vessels of facial skin. As a result, excessive blood flow is decreased and persistent redness associated with rosacea becomes less visible. The medication only treats redness of rosacea; it does not cure the disease or its acne-like lesions, visible blood vessels, or eye symptoms.
Redness-reducing effect of Brimonidine (Erythego) is temporary and may vary from patient to patient. Increased redness, flushing, or burning sensation may occur in some patients after application. In case of worsening of facial redness or its spreading outside the area of treatment, the treatment should be reevaluated.
Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve or persist despite using the medication.
Patients must pay attention to dosage instructions provided by physicians. The required dose is the pea-sized amount that applies to the area regularly.
Applying a missed dose of gel as quickly as possible is essential. Patients skip missed doses whether it is the time for the next dose.
Patients don't use skipped doses that result in side effects during the next scheduled dose.
Don't apply double doses simultaneously that enhance the irritation on the skin.
If you accidentally apply more on the skin, you can contact a medical expert immediately and get medical help.
Patients don't need more or less than recommended which causes adverse effects on the skin and worsens the condition.
Overdose can cause adverse effects include
Dosage depends on condition, age, weight, function of organs and systems, and the response to the treatment.
The most common dosing instructions for official Brimonidine prescribing information include application of the pea-sized amount once daily to the five facial areas: the center of forehead, chin, nose, left cheek, and right cheek. The gel should be distributed evenly in a thin layer on the whole area of the face without applying it to the eyes and lips.
The daily dose should not exceed approximately 1 g of gel. Application of more Brimonidine and/or frequent use of the medication will not necessarily improve redness but will increase the risk of skin irritation, flushing, hypotension, dizziness, and other systemic effects.
Brimonidine topical gel is approved only for use in adults aged 18 years and older. Safety and efficacy of Brimonidine have not been established in children. It should be used externally only for facial application and should not be used in eyes, mouth, vagina, or any other areas of the body.
The therapy can be used daily for the duration specified by your physician. Since this medicine affects redness temporarily and does not cure rosacea, the redness can appear again after wearing off of the effect of the medicine. If patients experience persistent worsening of redness, they should discontinue the treatment and seek medical advice.
The physician will select the most appropriate dosage and treatment regimen for your condition.
Before using topical gel for rosacea, patients let doctors know whether they are allergic to any medical conditions and allergies.
It may also come with an inactive ingredient that develops health issues and allergic reactions.
Patients must inform their doctor about medical history, like
Doctors never recommend erythego gel to pregnant and breastfeeding women because it affects the foetus and little one.
After using topical gel, patients don't drive vehicles or operating machines. If you have the above problems, you must use it with the proper caution.
During the initial consultation, patients must inform their medical condition to the doctor and get gel with the recommended dose.
The possible adverse reactions of Brimonidine (Erythego) include:
Some patients may experience worsening redness compared with their initial condition and appearance of redness in new areas of the face. This reaction can occur within hours after the application of the medicine or in several days or weeks after the beginning of treatment.
These adverse effects are temporary and usually mild. Contact your doctor in case of bothersome adverse effects that do not resolve during the expected period of time.

Though the Brimonidine (Erythego) is applied topically, a certain amount of the medication enters into the bloodstream and can reduce blood pressure. Therefore, special caution should be exercised when Brimonidine is used in combination with antihypertensive drugs, cardiac glycosides, or other medications that cause lowering of blood pressure or heart rate. Patients can need monitoring for dizziness, weakness, fainting, and unusually slow heartbeat.
Alcohol, sedatives, opioids for pain relief, sleeping pills, sedating antihistamines, and other central nervous system depressants may enhance the effects causing tiredness, dizziness, and decreased alertness if enough brimonidine is absorbed.
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors may inhibit the metabolism of brimonidine and increase the occurrence of systemic effects. Tricyclic antidepressants may affect the sensitivity to medicines acting through adrenergic nervous system. Patients using tricyclic antidepressants should undergo evaluation of their medications list before the start of the treatment.
Special caution may be needed in individuals with severe/unstable cardiovascular disorders, low blood pressure, poor peripheral blood circulation, Raynaud's phenomenon, cerebral or coronary insufficiency, depression, and other diseases of blood vessels.
